Jahda Dioum
Mame Diarra Dioum, known to most as Jahda, is a dancer of many genres. She began her exploration of dance at the age of five performing with a West African dance group. For most of her childhood, she learned this and other styles of international dance (Sabar, Haitian). Through programs like Stanford Gems and Dimensions Dance Theatre widened her range and artistic capacity learning tap, hip hop, and modern. At the age of eleven, she began her formal training at Oakland School for the Performing Arts. From ballet to contemporary, she continued to build her technical repertoire under the tutelage of Bay Area’s own Reginald Ray Savage of Savage Jazz. She trained for six years before pivoting to the Musical Theatre arena. Both Dance and Theatre are a large part of Jahda’s artistic expression as she has performed in numerous plays, musicals, and festivals. In 2012 Jahda was accepted to illustrious women’s college, Spelman College in Atlanta, GA, where she joined Spelman Dance Theatre. This opportunity allowed her to collaborate with renowned Atlanta artists including T. Lang and Omelika Kuumba. Jahda graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Political Science. She endeavors to balance both her career path and artistic prerogative. Now residing in the Bay Area, Jahda has continued dancing and even began practicing Bikram Yoga. She joined Bliss Dance Company in March of 2019.
